While I could imagine a lot of black decks that end up putting Essence Extraction in their sideboard instead of their maindeck, its particularly good in a Torrential Gearhulk deck, since it gives us a lifegain card we can Flashback to help put a game out of reach of our opponents

That said, this card is so good at what it does in Commander that I wouldnt be surprised to see it back at some point soon
