x cards mtg Question about (X) mana values. During FNM, one of my opponents was casting a card with an (X) in its mana value while he has around 12 +1/+1 counters on Animar. The put a +1/+1 counter on that creature and a +1/+1 counter on X Top 10 Best X-Spells -

Ideally, you should have something that covers one-shot artifact hate (Relic of Progenitus, Tormods Crypt, etc.), the interaction thats hidden in the opponents hand (Endurance, countermagic, etc.), other problematic permanents (Dauthi Voidwalker, Sanctifier en -Vec), and sometimes enchantment with static abilities (Leyline of the Void or Rest in Peace)

Either way, having 20 creatures in play to win is definitely possible, but you should be winning from there with a simple mass-pump effect like Overrun as well
